The plastic plug can be a royal pain. Mine snapped off because it is plastic so i had to figure out a way to replace. My 2002 jeep liberty 3 7 liter is leaking coolant the drain plug aka radiator drain has an o ring on it that does wear out over time causing a leak. You can remove and replace these relatively ease.

It s best to replace it every 10 years or so because the single o ring that provides the seal starts to give and it becomes the weakest link in your cooling system.
